Independance Day Details

By Ryan Kopf

Every year Muscatine spends approximately $20,000 on fireworks and the fourth of July parade, and they are asking local businesses and community supporters for support. Sponsorships of Muscatine's fourth of july celebration range from the $50-$99 'friend level', to the $100-$249 'bronze' level, all the way up to the $1000 or more platinum level.

Also, of important note, however, is the deadline for standard entry into the fourth of July parade. Contributors who give $100 or more to the Muscatine Chamber of Commerce to put on this event receive free parade admission, otherwise valued at $75. The deadline for this price is June 25, 2008, after which price increases to $125. Nonprofit groups, however, get in for free until the deadline, and for $50 afterwards.

The parade, with a theme of "Let Freedom Shine" is scheduled for Friday, July 4, 2008, starting promptly at 5:00pm. Throwing of candy from floats is still prohibited due to a perceived physical injury and littering danger.
